First, I have never installed an electric fence before and am still gathering what is needed for this project. Until installation is complete I am reviewing this fence charger based on the initial ease of assembly and charging.The assembly of the electric fence charger was simple with clear instructuons. The biggest challenge was attaching the solar panel onto the handle. Having a second pair of hands to hold the solar panel in place and a headlamp to see under the panel where the bolt goes really helped. After the solar panel had been installed on the fence charger and in the sun for a few days the green light lit up in the on position. Using the optional charging adapter for wall outlets was not necessary yet.The instructions say that with installing an electric fence a grounding post, a lightning arrester, plus a wire for a lightning coil are needed. There may be other things I will need (other than the electric fence wires and posts which I now have), like a bigger wooden post to install the battery on since it is heavy. The instructions also say that posting yellow warning signs is required.We have a lot of predators here, domestic and wild, and I am motivated to protect our chickens. It sounds like the shock may be powerful, so the plan is to have the chicken coop in an enclosure with the electric fence around that area where they aren't in danger of being shocked. I will probably extend the electric fencing further beyond the chicken area to protect a future garden, but deer are welcome otherwise!
