Recharging rechargeable Ni-Cd or Ni-MH batteries works like you would expect. It's fairly fast, but not so fast that it "cooks" the batteries like some other chargers. This charger also claims to be able to charge disposable alkaline batteries. Charging disposable batteries doesn't work well. It will "top off" a partially discharged alkaline battery, but you can only do it once or twice. It will bring a fully dead alkaline battery back up to 1.5 volts, but it will only last for a few minutes, and eventually the batteries will leak. This is really not the fault of this charger but just the limitations of physics. Disposable batteries were not designed to be rechargeable and putting them in a charger won't change that. At one point, perhaps 10 - 20 years ago, there were alkaline batteries that were designed to be recharged on the market, but they appear to no longer be available. I haven't tested with those. If I find some that will still take a charge, I will update this review.
